Your yearly pay
৳50,000 a month × 12 months
৳6,00,000
− Salary tax-free allowance
Salaried people don't pay tax on all their pay. A part is free: the lower of one-third of pay or ৳5,00,000.
− ৳2,00,000
= Taxable income
This is the income the government actually taxes — not your full salary.
৳4,00,000
− Tax-free limit
The first ৳3,75,000 is tax-free (General).
− ৳3,75,000
Tax on the rest, slab by slab
The remaining ৳25,000 is taxed in rising slabs — only the part inside each slab pays that slab's rate.
- ৳25,000 taxed at 10%৳2,500
= Tax before rebate
Add up every slab above.
৳2,500
Minimum tax applies
Your calculated tax (৳2,500) is below the ৳5,000 minimum for Dhaka / Chattogram City Corporation. Once your income crosses the tax-free limit, you pay at least the minimum.

Go to NBR e-ReturnHow the tax slabs work
Bangladesh taxes income in rising bands — each slab's rate applies only to the income inside that slab, not your whole income. Ranges below are for General (tax-free up to ৳3,75,000).
| Income range (per year) | Tax rate |
|---|---|
| ৳0 – ৳3,75,000 · tax-free | 0% |
| ৳3,75,000 – ৳6,75,000 | 10% |
| ৳6,75,000 – ৳10,75,000 | 15% |
| ৳10,75,000 – ৳15,75,000 | 20% |
| ৳15,75,000 – ৳35,75,000 | 25% |
| Above ৳35,75,000 | 30% |

- Just enter your monthly salary — we convert it to taxable income for you, so you don't have to.
- Salaried people get a tax-free salary allowance: the lower of one-third of salary income or ৳5,00,000.
- Uses the configured current individual slabs; the general tax-free limit is ৳3,75,000 (only the exemption differs by category).
- Investment rebate = the lowest of 15% of eligible investment, 3% of taxable income, and ৳10,00,000.
- Minimum tax applies once your income crosses the tax-free limit, even if your slab tax is lower.
- This is a simplified estimate — it doesn't handle surcharge on high net worth or special/spread income.
Good to know
Your salary is not your taxable income
You pay tax on taxable income, not your full pay. Salaried people first get a tax-free allowance — the lower of one-third of salary income or ৳5,00,000 — and only the rest counts. That's why we ask for your salary and do the conversion: most people can't compute 'taxable income' on their own.
Bonus counts, rent and freelance don't get the allowance
Festival bonus is part of salary income, so the salary allowance applies to it. Rent, freelance and business income are added to your taxable income on top — with no salary allowance of their own. Add them under 'Add details'.
The rebate rewards saving
Investing in DPS, Sanchayapatra, life insurance and approved funds reduces your tax via the rebate. Enter your eligible investment under 'Add details' to see the effect.

OpenFrequently asked questions
I earn ৳50,000 a month — how much income tax do I pay?
On a ৳50,000 monthly salary with one default festival bonus, your salary income is ৳6,50,000 a year. The salary allowance (one-third, here about ৳2,16,667) is tax-free, leaving about ৳4,33,333 taxable. After the ৳3,75,000 tax-free limit, about ৳58,333 is taxed at 10%, so the estimate is about ৳5,833 before any source tax credit.
Do I enter my salary or my taxable income?
Enter your gross monthly salary — the number you already know. The calculator converts it to taxable income by applying the salary allowance (lower of one-third of pay or ৳5,00,000). If you already know your taxable income, open 'Add details' and switch to 'I know my taxable income'.
What is the tax-free income limit in Bangladesh?
For the configured current rule set, the general limit is ৳3,75,000. It is ৳4,25,000 for women and senior citizens (65+), ৳5,00,000 for persons with disability and third-gender taxpayers, and ৳5,25,000 for gazetted war-wounded freedom fighters / wounded July fighters.
How can I reduce my income tax?
Invest in approved savings — DPS, Sanchayapatra, life insurance, listed shares and approved funds — to claim the investment rebate. The rebate is the lowest of 15% of your eligible investment, 3% of your taxable income, or ৳10,00,000, and it's subtracted from your tax. The calculator shows how much more you could invest and how much tax you'd save. Note: if your tax is already at the minimum tax floor, investing won't reduce it further.
How does the investment rebate work?
You get a rebate equal to the lowest of 15% of your eligible investment, 3% of your taxable income, or ৳10,00,000. It is subtracted from your calculated tax. Each instrument also has its own eligibility cap (for example DPS counts up to ৳1,20,000 a year).
What is AIT / tax deducted at source?
Advance Income Tax (AIT) and TDS are amounts already taken from your salary, bank interest, car or other sources during the year. They're credited against your final tax, so your real bill is your assessed tax minus what's already been deducted. Enter it under 'Add details' to see what's still left to pay — or whether you're due a refund.
What is minimum tax?
If your income crosses the tax-free limit, a minimum tax can apply even if your calculated tax is lower. The configured current rule set uses a ৳5,000 general minimum, while older years may have area-based minimum tax.
